If you have recently purchased a used Mercedes-Benz vehicle with a navigation system, you may have noticed that the maps in that system might be a little out of date.

Firstly, I wouldn't condone downloading off the internet, it is essentially software piracy. A couple of things to bear in mind too:1) Given the age of your current disk, you will need the software update disk before installing the latest Nav DVD. If you don't do this, chances are it won't work as the COMAND unit needs updating first.2) Once you start, there's no going back normally. If the upgrade/update process starts but can't complete, you can't put your old disk back in and carry on as you did. You basically lose the SatNav and Map capability off your COMAND until you get the update finished.I would buy the disk fom MB. I paid £186 for the latest one and they installed the updates and the new software for me while I waited for free.

May sound a lot (I don't know), but it's worth it to remove the hassle factor if there are problems. If a 'home made' disk failed to update the COMAND properly, you have no comeback, and probably an expensive bill to sort it.Cheers,Bill. Click to expand.Quite often a manufacturer of intellectual goods like this actually write some security data to a non-used portion of a CD which won't normally get picked up if you do a straight-forward copy. There are some utilities out there that can do a full sector-by-sector copy of a disk to capture this but it is a bit hit and miss.Legally speaking, you should be able to make a backup copy of your software but manufacturers routinely ignore that and implement this type of security feature to safeguard against illegal copying.Dave.
