Western books aren't typically the type of books I read but I loved this book. I enjoyed the main character Perley very much. He was really witty with lots of wholesome charm. Loved following him on his adventure. Hopefully there is more to come!!

Awesome! Wow, I truly enjoyed this book on the young Perley Gates. But was real sorry grandpa got killed before he could be with his family again. Looking forward to more books on Perley in the future. Thank you Jo Johnstone for a awesome read.

This was actually a very good book. It was a fun story, a little light-hearted, and has a very likeable hero.
Sort of reminded me of the guns of Will Sonnett somewhat. The grandson is looking for the grandpa, to let him know Dad is dead. During his journey finding his grandfather, he has a number of Adventures, and of course he saves a few damsels in distress.
Really worth the read I hope there's a second book to come

A great and entertaining read. I am on the way to my computer in hopes of finding more stories of young Partly Gates. This is one of those books you can't put down. This book is refreshing. Not the usual fast draw 'shootem ups'. One of the best western stories of my some 500 books in my saloon. So, Giddy Up.

A good story, smooth flow action, not a lot of shooting and killing. Liked the personality of Perley and his politeness, humanity, and the way he carried his life. The story is compelling and very difficult to put down, however I did not like the ending..killing grandpa after all the trouble in finding him was not the climax I was looking for.

Excellent read from start to finish. This story kept you full attention all the way. Just wish it had not ended so soon it still had my full attention right up and including the ending. Hope this author keeps these stories coming.

I enjoyed the book. Perley Gates is a gopd character and his trials while looking for his Grandpa kept me turning pages.

I don't think I've read this one before. I really liked it. It's more along the lines of a Smoke story. I think Perley will go far. I hope I get to see more of him.

Good Reading, right up there with Smoke, Mat and Preacher.
Had to read this for my Adult Literature Class. While I liked the main character, the book seemed mostly about scene and actions. Not sure I'm a westerns person.
Looking forward to book #2 when it gets published.

I won this book as a Goodreads giveaway.
This is the second book by William Johnstone that I've won here on Goodreads, and while I'm not a regular reader of Westerns, I was expecting a whole lot more out of this book then I got. I found that most of the book was just the same scenarios repeating over and over again. Perley finding someone, returning/delivering her to someplace, then moving on only to have the same thing happen all over again someplace else. The book just sort of plodded along wit..more
